Following the successful reissue of Fighting Back earlier this year, Deko Entertainment proudly announces the return of another essential chapter in the legacy of Paul Di’Anno’s Battlezone with the fully remastered and repackaged release of Children of Madness.
Known worldwide as the original voice of Iron Maiden, Paul Di’Anno helped define the sound of one of heavy metal’s most influential bands. After departing Iron Maiden, Di’Anno refused to rest on past achievements and instead launched Battlezone, a hard-hitting new project that showcased his unmistakable vocals and relentless energy. The band’s debut album, Fighting Back (1986), reintroduced Di’Anno to the metal world with a renewed sense of purpose and aggression.
Just one year later, Battlezone returned with their sophomore effort, Children of Madness, originally released in August 1987. Recorded at Village Recorders in Dagenham, East London, and produced by Ian Richardson, the album featured a revamped lineup and a broader songwriting approach that expanded the band’s musical horizons.
While Fighting Back is often celebrated as Battlezone’s definitive release, many fans regard Children of Madness as a hidden gem within Di’Anno’s post-Maiden catalog. The album blended the raw power of British heavy metal with a more melodic and accessible sound, without sacrificing the intensity that made Di’Anno a metal icon. Tracks such as the title cut, “Children of Madness,” showcased thunderous riffs, memorable hooks, and darker lyrical themes that continue to resonate with fans nearly four decades later.
Now, as the album approaches its 40th anniversary, Deko Entertainment has given Children of Madness the deluxe treatment. This new edition has been fully remastered and repackaged for collectors and longtime fans alike and will be available on 180-gram vinyl in two limited-edition color variants as well as on CD. Both formats include the bonus tracks “To The Limit” and “Down Under.”
Nearly forty years after its original release, Children of Madness remains an important and often-overlooked entry in the history of 1980s heavy metal, capturing a unique moment in the evolution of one of the genre’s most recognizable voices.
