The Punk Rock Museum is proud to announce the opening of the new exhibition dedicated to Motörhead and Lemmy on Friday, October 2nd, 2026.
Motörhead was a legendary force in the rock and heavy metal scene. Led by Lemmy Kilmister, the band’s uncompromising sound and attitude earned them a devoted following across generations and around the world. While Motörhead helped define heavy metal, their roots ran just as deep in punk. Lemmy not only played bass with the Damned, but he was a fixture in the British punk rock scene. Motörhead’s intensity and speed influenced many of the greats of the next generation of punk, including Pennywise, Rancid, and Lagwagon, among many others.
Lemmy used his Rickenbacker bass to create Motörhead’s unmistakable sound through Marshall stacks. The result was a volume and intensity that became renowned; countless fans still describe Motörhead as the loudest band they ever saw, with a sound they didn’t just hear, but felt.
The exhibition will feature personal items from Lemmy’s collection, including photographs and handwritten lyrics. One of the most unique parts of the exhibition will be the opportunity for museum guests to play Lemmy’s bass through the actual stack he used.
Rather than simply looking at the equipment, visitors can plug in, pick up the bass, and experience the gear that helped create Motörhead’s unmistakable sound. It offers a rare opportunity to connect with the band’s history in a direct and personal way.
Motörhead albums will be available at Vinyl Threat, the museum’s record store, and exclusive Motörhead merchandise will be available in the museum’s gift shop.
To celebrate the opening, Three Star Punk Bar will host a special evening with Brian Slagel of Metal Blade Records DJing. Guests can raise a glass to Lemmy and celebrate the music and legacy of Motörhead.
