Review by Phil Rozier for MPM

Author: a rock fan who’s just crash-landed into a rave—and kinda loves it.

Alright, I’ll admit it—I’m usually more Marshall stacks than modular synths, but Storm Flight by Chronicles of the Residuum has me rethinking my genre boundaries. This track is a full-throttle sonic escape pod, and I’m strapped in with a grin

Imagine the bloodbath disco scene from Blade—you know, the one where vampires party like it’s the end of the world? Now throw in a sunrise chill-out session in Ibiza, and you’ve got Storm Flight. It kicks off with pounding drum and bass that feels like it’s trying to outrun a lightning storm, then glides into these lush, ambient textures that make you want to close your eyes and float. The bass and percussion are tight, punchy, and addictive. It’s rave meets cinematic storytelling, and I’m here for it.

What really elevates the track is the spoken word element. It’s not just a beat—it’s a narrative. You’re not just dancing, you’re experiencing something. The voiceovers add this eerie, immersive layer that makes you feel like you’re part of a sci-fi epic. It’s like Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds got a remix from The Prodigy and Aphex Twin.

Storm Flight is the second single from the upcoming concept album Chronicles of the Residuum: The Age of Destruction, following the equally intense Escape from Port Fallen. The whole project is shaping up to be a multimedia beast—crafted over a decade, with influences from Hans Zimmer to Orbital, and even visual storytelling from Magic: The Gathering artist Igor Kieryluk.

VoiceMag nailed it when they called Storm Flight “an electrifying thrill ride through sonic chaos and cinematic storytelling”. And yeah, I’m totally that lunatic replaying it on loop.  If you’re a rock fan like me who’s open to a little genre-hopping, Storm Flight is your gateway drug. It’s bold, it’s bonkers, and it’s beautifully crafted. I’m hyped for the full album dropping 30th October 2025—and if the rest of Chronicles of the Residuum is anything like this, we’re in for one hell of a ride.

Now excuse me while I go dig out my glowsticks and rewatch Blade.
