Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

Always one of the biggest hooks from their monstrously successful ‘Impera’album, ‘Spillways’ was a natural choice for a single, its mix of melody, punch and drama utterly addictive.

Knowing  great songwriting when he hears it and immediately falling in love with them, it was only a matter of time before Leppard frontman Joe Elliott hooked up with Tobias Forge and this platinum plated version of the track takes turns the power up to 11.

With his naturally rawer singing style, Elliott’s vocals sit perfectly with the grand, stadium-filling design of the song, the blend a seamless one that adds a wonderfully dirty edge to the song that’s both distinctive yet subtle as underneath the keys-led hard hitting riffs rain down.

Given the majestic strength of this collaboration, can we dare to dream that Ghost will be added to the Summer Stadium jaunt with Leppard and Motley Crue? Now THAT would surely be a sight to behold but, whether it happens or not, we can relish the wonderfully wicked pairing that makes ‘Spillways’ one of the
best things you’ll hear all year.
