Yorkshire metalcore upstarts Waterlines relaunched themselves to the world at the end of 2022, transitioning from their former life as Sertraline.
The first single under their new name, The Halo Around The Horns, received huge fan and industry acclaim. Waterlines are starting 2023 exactly as they finished last year, with a huge new song to continue their momentum. Their brand new single, KÖNIG, is ready to rip your ears off, and it’s out now.
From the slow burning intro through to frontman Ben Mars‘ rapid fire vocal delivery, surrounded by some of the best riffs you’ll hear anywhere this month and beyond, KÖNIG is a huge statement for the start of the year. Check out the video for KÖNIG below:
The song is a very personal one to Waterlines, and to frontman Ben in particular, who we will hand over to, to tell the story of KÖNIG:
“Lyrically, KÖNIG is the product of me wanting to tell a story for a close friend of mine.
Many people will know what it’s like to watch someone drown from outside the box and just want to scream at them to run the other way.
This song is about recognising your worth and treating yourself like the King (or Queen!) you are.
Musically, yeah, we wanted to push it just a little bit more… There’s a lot of influences in the band, from every corner of the musicverse and we wanted to push the boat out and write music we want to listen to. KÖNIG is what happens when we all come together with a view to do something fucking stupid. I think it works.

As mentioned above, KÖNIG is the follow up to Waterlines’ smash hit rebirth single The Halo Around The Horns, which achieved extensive coverage from the heavy music press. Waterlines will be coming to a city or town near you in the coming months. They have already been confirmed to headline the SummerSlammer Festival at Rebellion in Manchester on the 15th Of July. Tickets for SummerSlammer, an all day festival featuring over a dozen other bands, are available now. Further shows will be announced soon.
