Review by Rick Eaglestone for MPM

New England death metal beasts Fuming Mouth unleash their second album Last Day Of Sun

Opening with warped vocals and dominant basslines Out Of Time slowly lingers with a sublime level of fury cascaded with some catchy riffs, this is then followed by the shadowy Respect and Blasphemy with embedded soundscapes that hark back to the late 80’s thrash era.

Following this is the slower, purposeful The Silence Beyond Life which in parts take on a different vocal range adding another dynamic it’s quite melodic in parts but then up steps The Sign Of Pain to adjust the balance once more.

Creeping in with an all-new wave of unease is Leaving Euporia which although has a more overall serene feel is laden with dualling soundscapes all trying to grab the attention of listener, I particularly enjoy the record skip feel to it in places, the vocal structure is incredibly well done too.

Accelerating with a modern wave is I’ll Find You which marches on into the gritty unnerving composition Disgusterlude which then weaves into Kill The Disease with an encasing of prominent basslines and doom-laden riffs.

Title track Last Day Of Sun continues with the down tempo nature but the vocal delivery doesn’t which on this track is accompanied with some really nice backing vocals giving a nice atmospheric touch.

R.I.P. (Rest In Piss) is short and to the point and is followed by Burial Practices that has a steady non-negotiable head nodding element before throwing in parts to turn the nod into an uncontrollable spin.

Final track Postfigurement provides the band one more opportunity to leave an impression and they certainly do unleashing an amalgamation of collective musicianship that is hard not to appreciate.
