Review by Gary Spiller for MPM

Watch out for you’ve been forewarned. Re-energised Kent rockers Collateral are back in the ring swinging with brand-new material! As exhilarating as that much-needed first morning rush of caffeine and as explosive as the wildest of Bonfire Night celebrations Collateral have come out of the 2024 traps in top gear from the very off.

With their first new material in almost four years Collateral have set the bar dizzyingly high with the release of the hugely infectious single ‘Glass Sky’. If this one track is indicative of what is in store for one and all upon their second album ‘Should’ve Known Better’ then we’re in for an absolute mellifluous feast.

With this year just a few weeks old it’s turning into a year of sophomore releases with South of Salem and Florence Black sending down thunderbolts of their own. My prediction is that Collateral can be added to that too. Once more a four-piece they are now striding forth upon a darker path than before, slighter edgier and with a touch of grit thrown in.

Out of the shadows, they’re coming home. There’s a hurricane coming your way! Searing guitar licks courtesy of firebrand six-stringer Louis Malagodi, Jack Bentley-Smith’s meaty bass and oh-so solid percussive elements delivered by Ben Atkinson construct an edifying fortress from which Angelo Tristan’s trademark vocals power forth.

Dynamic to their core, powerful as ever and burning on the shortest of fast burning fuse wires Collateral deliver the tastiest of knockout blows. Hard rock pugilism at its finest. As the lightning cracks and thunder roars above be sure to swiftly get aligned for the unrelenting stampede will show no mercy. This is a coming of age herein, the contagion runs at astronomical levels.

‘Should’ve Known Better’, produced by Dan Weller (Those Damn Crows), is due for release, via Big Shot Records, on Friday 24th May. Mark the date in your calendar!
