Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

Given Chris Shiflett’s love of Americana and Country, it was only a matter of time before he turned his gaze onto this, Thin Lizzy’s atmospheric anthem to all things pastoral and the huge skies of the Mid West.

Removing the Celtic feel, Shiflett has replaced this with a wonderful warmth that gives a different angle, the rough boisterousness of the original replaced with a smooth yet driving twang.

There’s no end of character and atmosphere here as the tale unfurls, the sheen one of a shimmering heat haze seen through a glorious late 1970’s feel in the production, the echoes of those halcyon times when CB radio and Country music was spreading like a warm and welcoming hug across the UK.

A wonderful tribute to the original and a great version in its own right, this ‘Cowboy Song’ is made for radio and no matter where you are, this will transport the listener to a better place. Perfect.
