Review by Emma Brown for MPM

A story of tough times, love, and perseverance, Ferocious Dog’s “A Place We Call Home” delights the ears, and warms the heart.

The celebrated folk/punk band yet again deliver in giving their beloved fans the authenticity and experienced musical craftsmanship that they are renowned for.

“A Place We Call Home” tells the tale of poverty and hardship, but how through these struggles, there can also be a great sense of strength, love, and warmth that comes from the community you develop around you in these difficult times.

As the song unfolds, the listener uncovers the story of people who have nothing but determination and courage to keep going, staying true to themselves despite the horrendous hardships that they face.

Although not specified, this song has strong links to the topic of homelessness. This is an issue that the band have been raising awareness for for quite some time, even having food donation banks at their shows for guests to support.

This heartening story is surrounded by a blanket of bright and melodic instrumentation, which really helps turn this story from one of sadness, to hope.

This song has the kind of melody that entwines its way into your head, creating a memorable and long lasting impression.

Ferocious Dog use their wide range of instruments to create a beautiful tapestry of sound. The way the instruments come in and out of the track, dancing between the emotive lyrics and alternating vocals between Ken Bosnall and guest singer Lizzey Joy Ross, leave the listener not only amazed by the story, but by the band’s musical proficiency too.

Overall, this track brings things that in this world are often hard to come by: honesty, vulnerability and transparency.

However, what truly comes through above all else is how this is not a song of sadness or pity, but rather one of hopefulness, strength and love.
