Review by Tammy Lomax for MPM

It’s been two years since melodic death metallers Arch Enemy released their 11th album Deceivers.

It was all quiet on the front until recently when they surprised us with the new single “Dream Stealer”

Alongside a video that was directed by Patric Ullaeus, “Dream Stealer” was mixed by Jens Bogren and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios.

It is their first bit of new material since guitarist Joey Concepcion replaced Jeff Loomis, who departed the band in late 2023.

Guitarist Michael Amott explained:

“This is our first new Arch Enemy song in quite a while, and it feels great to be back! It was a lot of fun working on “Dream Stealer” in the studio. This song just has that high energy and twisted atmosphere that makes it so exciting to play! Turn it up, loud and heavy! Metal is immortal!”

It’s a decently paced track and full to the brim with maximum energy. The vocals are not overly complex when it comes to ranges but they certainly hold some aggressive bite. Not a massive evolution in sound since their prior release, however it is clearly catchy and the impact holds just as strong.

In October Arch Enemy will be on a big co-headliner tour through Europe with In Flames and Soilwork will be supporting them.

New album release? It’s all very hush hush but I suppose it’s all for good intentions as they build some anticipation.
