Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

One of the bands of the weekend at the recent Maid of Stone festival, Nottingham quartet Phoenix Lake practically dripped rock ‘n’ roll charisma and matched that with a set of killer tunes.

One of the highlights was ‘Serenity’, its raw, live form full of attitude and this brazen bravado is amplified in this studio cut, the urgent and soaring tones bigger than ever.

Seamlessly switching between gorgeous longing, tender fragility and some insane riffing that threaten to strip the flesh from your bones.

With the impassioned vocals of Lana Phillis and Ash Wilson’s coruscating fretwork whipping up the storm, this is an anthem worthy of Within Temptation metal and is certain to see them climbing ever higher. Phoenix Lake are on the rise and ‘Serenity’ is a mighty calling card.
