Review by Rick Eaglestone for MPM
God Dethroned return with another unholy scripture – with the overall topic of Judas being the scapegoat, used for a scheme to create a king for this world and how Jesus responds to him for being trapped in this dubious collaboration.
All rise for The Judas Paradox
The album opens with title track The Judas Paradox and really sets the tone with its slow brooding nature and narrative style, this is followed up with the thunderous, multi layered Rat Kingdom.
Dominant basslines and rolling drum patterns The Hanged Man and is complimented with short atmospheric instrumental composition Black Heart which serves as a great introduction to the savage and visceral nature of Asmodeus, which is easily the albums crowning glory, and honestly would send Cradle of Filth fans into a complete tailspin.
Kashmir Princess continues with the ominous outpouring with some nice guitar sections which really leans into the mythology aspect of the album, with Hubris Anorexia delivering another intense offering.
The Eye of Providence is where God Dethroned demonstrate their technical prowess which lyrically encapsulates the overall aesthetic of the album and then fires into some huge death metal soundscapes with Hailing Death.
The layers of dark, heavy riffs and nuanced classical touches are in abundance with the albums penultimate track Broken Bloodline.
Lastly War Machine adds another dimension to the band’s long history of composing diverse albums with swirling solo and one final lingering blasphemous beast.
