Since their inception in 2015, Giovannie and The Hired Guns have made a blockbuster career in the States out of wildly defying expectations.
With a visceral sound that merges Alt-metal, Red Dirt country, Latin pop, Americana, and much more, the Stephenville, Texas-based five-piece have ascended from playing local honky-tonks to taking the stage at major festivals and arenas across the U.S.A. drawing an ardent crowd ranging from cowboys to metalheads to skate punks.
Their new album “Quitter,” is out today and can be listened to HERE.
Recorded at the famed Sonic Ranch (a residential studio near the Mexican border in Tornillo, Texas) and produced by Johnny K (Megadeth, Sevendust, Plain White T’s), “Quitter” marks the fourth full-length from Giovannie and The Hired Guns (frontman Giovannie Yanez, guitarists Carlos Villa and Jerrod Flusche, bassist/tuba player Alex Trejo, and drummer/pianist Milton Toles.)
Gio recalls their time at the Sonic Ranch studio: “When we got to Sonic Ranch to record our album, the owner drove us around the property. The recording studio is located on a pecan farm east of El Paso and sits right up against the wall between Mexico and the United States. Obviously, there is a lot to consider when you are standing right next to that wall. What hit me right away was the thought that my ancestors grew up on the other side of the border and I am so fortunate to be able to live my dreams as a first generation American.”
Mixing sounds from both sides of the border the band embrace their roots and don’t worry about pigeon-holes. “From the beginning I told the guys not to worry about sounding too rock or too country on this record,” Gio recalls. “We just went in there and had fun and didn’t let anything hold us back, and because of that the album shows the full range of what we can do as a band.”
One of the most crowd-thrilling bands to burst onto the American scene in recent years, they have pushed the boundaries of rock-and-roll and country to forge an irresistibly gritty sound all their own. After building a massive grassroots following on the strength of their explosive live show, the Stephenville, Texas-based group continue to go from strength to strength. With sixty shows and festivals planned across North America, before the end of this summer, an album release show in Tulsa tonight, this is a band who live to play live: “Making music and playing it live for millions of people was always my dream and I get to live it every day. I thought about that rest of the time we were making the album at Sonic Ranch and it definitely gave us extra fuel to make this album great.”
