Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM
Showing that grassroots bands are better doing things the hard way, Hedra have been one of the most ferocious acts out there, building up a reputation through consistent touring rather than focusing on whacky and staged TikTok videos to gain likes.
Capturing the genuine spirit of all that brought rock and metal into the eternal force it’s become, the outfit have proven that great songwriting and stellar musicianship are way more important and long lasting than fevered flash in the pan social media likes that try to capture the zeitgeist but get forgotten instantly when the next trend comes along.
New song ‘The Glass’ is proof positive if anyone actually needs it that a great band playing a song that blends muscle and melody is an utterly irresistible and life giving combination.
Given the welcome reassessment of the much maligned Nu Metal bands of the past, Hedra have tapped into all that made the sub genre so vital and thrilling and with its hints of Korn and big punch, this new release from the East Anglians stands loud and proud. Turn it up and let yourself go.
