Review by Ritchie Birnie for MPM

Mason Hill are back with one hell of a bang on “Remember” their latest single. I cannot believe it has been five years since the release of the amazing Against the Wall and as the band were starting to explode out of Glasgow it all went quiet as lead singer Scott Taylor left and the fans were all in limbo.

The radio silence was very dark and although we heard rumours that a new singer had been found even the usuaslly chatty band were keeping very tight lippped…even if plied with drink, you would have thought they were working on a Marvel movie.

But lets face it, Mason Hill do like to keep us waiting as it took five years to release their debut album and with all the struggles they have seen it is amazing we ever got to this point but here we are and this seems like a whole new dawn.

As the track opens we are introduced to new singer Tom Ward immediately on the back of an industrial tapestry of sound and his twisted, tortured opening vocals slot perfectly with Craig’s pounding drums and Matthew’s thunderous bass line.

As the ominous story proceeds we are introduced to Tom’s power as his vocals soar and the guitars of Marc and James build the melody at the same time as they try to rip your spine out.

This is a whole new bag of toys that Mason Hill are playing with and I am loving it. The songwriting was always a backbone to this band and the reason why they owned their hometown of Glasgow before word spread far and wide.

If the album follows the feel and strength of “Remember” they are looking at a whole new audience but as a fan who has followed this band from its humble beginnings I can assure you they are not going to lose any existing fans either.

We all believed the band were right on the cusp of greatness and this album could be the catalyst to that world domination we all hoped for.

Well done guys, this one is outstanding and I cannot wait for the album and the hometown live return, oh, if you didn’t get a ticket for the Glasgow or London show tough luck, they both sold out in 24 hours so you can just sit back and play the album till the next shows are announced.
