Through music, art, education— all set within the remote wilderness that borders Glacier National Park in Northwest Montana, in an area the Blackfeet Nation call “The Backbone of the World”— Fire in the Mountains Festival is a one-of-a-kind, immersion-based experience. Designed to rekindle the connection to the natural world and one’s self, the festival’s distinctive approach makes them the most original and meaningful heavy music festival in North America.

Taking place this July, the festival has announced the fourth wave of artists to perform: Agalloch (performing an Ashes Against the Grain set), Amigo the Devil, and Between Two Worlds. A secret headliner will be announced at a later date and tickets are on sale here.
Fire in the Mountains organizers comment: “It is our absolute honor to host for the first time ever in North America— and second time ever on stage— the performance of the landmark 2006 release BETWEEN TWO WORLDS by founding members and Black Metal superstars Abbath, Ice Dale, and Armagedda.” They continue, “In an exclusive North American engagement, the band will bring the triumphant ripper of a record to life on stage, in the glory of the Rocky Mountains on the beautiful Blackfeet Nation for a special 20th Anniversary Performance. A show that before could only be dreamed of, we cannot wait to share this moment with all of you under the stars.”
Abbath adds: “Between Two Worlds is an album I’ve always been very proud of. Many of these songs have only been performed live once. I’m very much looking forward to teaming up with my old friends Ice Dale and Armagedda to revisit these tracks for this great occasion. It’s been way too long.”
Fire in the Mountains was originally created to highlight the symbiotic relationship between heavy music and mountain landscapes. It was a way to bring people together to experience something extraordinary: the primal power of heavy music combined with the majesty and wildness of the Rocky Mountains. What transpired was a truly unique and inspiring musical experience for the audience and bands alike. Now, Fire in the Mountains is evolving to be much more than just a concert in the mountains— it’s the deliberate curation of music, art, education, food, social responsibility, and adventure with the intention to cultivate our intrinsic nature through the act of rewilding; that is, to reconnect and immerse oneself with the natural world.
In addition to the festival’s embedded experiences, their impact is even greater. Fire in the Mountains is dedicated to confronting a critical and urgent issue that significantly impacts the Blackfeet Nation, and all of Indian Country: suicide. Suicide rates among Indigenous peoples are significantly higher than the national average, reflecting a deep-seated crisis that demands immediate attention and dedicated resources. This devastating reality underscores a pressing need for increased awareness, understanding, and preventative measures.
Fire in the Mountains is committed not only to raising awareness of the prevalence of suicide in Indian Country but also to actively participate in the solution by providing support for suicide prevention initiatives. Fire in the Mountains aims to create a platform that brings this issue to the forefront of public consciousness and fosters a supportive community dedicated to change.
Fire in the Mountains is sponsored by Metal Injection.
