Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

With their second album fast approaching on the horizon, fast rising Cambridgeshire quintet Planet Fatale builds on the promise of their acclaimed debut with this, the first thrilling single from their new opus.

Whilst they’ve become known for their incendiary live shows, ‘Psychostasia’ shows their growth as songwriters and manages to distill their raw power into something that oozes with class and weight. Never sounding better, the production by Tony Iommi collaborator has brought a sonic attack to the band that elevates their game even higher and see some big doors kicked down.

Featuring a soulful yet deeply gritty vocal from Hels Johnson, this is a crushingly heavy banger that blends blues touches that focuses more on feel and heft than pure speed. Certainly, guitars growl and snarl as the rythyms pound but this grasp of dynamics and tone shows a real quality that the band have worked hard on. With its Egyptian iconography and probing central question of what have you done with your life, this is an outstanding work by the band and illustrates exactly why they deserve their place in the new generation of rock and metal acts that are taking on the world. They may be standing on the shoulders of giants but Planet Fatale are more than ready to build their own legends. All that could have been hoped for and more, this is a a phenomenal start to their next chapter.
