Double Grammy-nominated band Rival Sons release a remastered version of their 2012 album Head Down on their own label Sacred Tongue Recordings, today May 24th, 2024.
The band also announce Brighton based young band Creeping Jean as support for their upcoming UK / European summer headline dates, kicking off in less than two weeks at Sweden Rock Festival, Trondheim Rocks then the sold out O2 Academy, Oxford. French band Howlin’ Jaws will support for sold out show in Luxembourg.
Guitarist Scott Holiday states: “This has been a good few months of downtime since the hecticness of 2022-2023 when we released our two records DARKFIGHTER and LIGHTBRINGER in succession. We’re definitely anxious to get back on the road! We’ll be kicking off at Sweden Rock, and then two sold out shows in the U.K.! For this tour, we plan on playing treats from our latest two albums plus digging deep into the 7 records that came before them, with a little extra emphasis on Head Down deep cuts as we’re celebrating its 10th anniversary! We’re really looking forward to getting back out, seeing each other, and making some music!”
Last year (2023) the Double Grammy-nominated band released two albums DARKFIGHTER and LIGHTBRINGER [Low Country Sound/Atlantic Records]. These two records built on Rival Sons legacy of stellar song writing that has always put them ahead of the curve.
The critically acclaimed third full-length album Head Down, was widely celebrated as a game-changer for the band garnering accolades from across the globe.
The 2024 Head Down release has been remastered by Pete Lyman at Infrasonic Sound and released through Sacred Tongue Recordings the band’s own record label, distributed by Thirty Tigers. Pressed on standard weight (140g) vinyl the album comes in two vinyl colours, the standard “California Kingsnake” and the Rival Sons webstore only limited variant is “Rosefinch”.
Frontman Jay Buchanan comments: “This record… wow. Head Down was the introduction of a more cinematic, wider-lensed Rival Sons. It’s a summer record made in the dead of a cold, cold winter. Listening to the remaster I can hear the origin story of everything that followed.”
Featuring the hit single and fan favourite Keep On Swinging, plus poppy retro dance numbers “Until The Sun Comes“ and “Wild Animal.” Head Down is album that showcases the versatility of Rival Sons and the strength of their song writing. Head Down also includes the classic ballad of death and loss “Jordan” and “Manifest Destiny Parts 1 & 2”, an epic stonking room shaker of betrayal and revenge of the Native American People.
Scott Holiday continues: “When we recorded Head Down, we never even went home from touring. We drove the van right to Nashville and wrote and recorded the whole record inside of a month. We were having a lot of fun and playing well together, which allowed us to really push the boundaries with Head Down. We covered a lot of musical ground on this album. A large step forward from the simpler arrangements on Pressure and Time.”
The first 1000 copies of the remastered version ordered from Rivalsonsmerch.com will come with a hand-signed lyric sheet of either “Jordan”, “Manifest Destiny”, “Keep On Swinging” or “Run From Revelation”.
