Review by Tammy Lomax for MPM
Standing out from the crowd, the 2022 album release ‘Oh What The Future Holds’ became one of the highest charting releases forged from Fit For An Autopsy.
Topping this album in any way would be a tremendously difficult task.
However, ‘The Nothing That Is’ is suggested to have excelled in regard to any of their previous releases.

The masters of elasticating deathcore released ‘The Nothing That Is’ today (25/10/2024) and it is their seventh studio album.
I would categorically confirm that the group have reached for the impossible and tickled it on the chin.
Developing their versatile combinations of sound throughout their years of dedication and pure graft, Fit For An Autopsy have crafted their blends, mastered and evolved it with every single record. Nothing sounds repetitive and this is exactly why they are definitely one of the most dominating, dynamic deathcore bands to date.
‘The Nothing That Is’ was released via Nuclear Blast and was produced by Will Putney at his Graphic Nature Audio Studio in Kinnelon, New Jersey. The artwork was created by Adam Burke who definitely captured and created the message embedded within the album.
Anger, frustration and crushing despair is the inspiration that has fuelled this album and as predictably assumed, the sound structure is nothing like they have created before.
Over the last fifteen years since formation, the group are forever twisting and moulding their music with zero limitations and in this new album they explore more moody textures and have taken on totally different dynamics to their already brutal complex music. They have injected it with a fresh energised medicine that is neither predictable nor expected. And the delivery of this as a whole is sharply confident and extremely skillful.
The first singles “Savior Of None / Ashes Of All” “Hostage” and “Lower Purpose” were released prior to the album giving us eager fans a little glimpse into the assortment of flexibility and whopping these onto the table.
“Savior Of None / Ashes Of All” is a reflection of the inherent darkness surrounding one’s struggle to find a place of peace within the pressures of existence.
The root causes of suffering that lead us to depression, addiction, etc can be ever-present in everyone. Whether or not it materialises in a controlling way, it certainly exists as a stain on the human psyche. It’s a powerful thought knowing that we all share this potential to self-destruct and how that can bring comfort in not feeling alone or more chaos to an already fractured human.”
With the track “Hostage” they prove that they can faithfully throw anything into the mix and bake it perfectly. Its an impressive album opener and those cleans that Joe Badolato deploy are effortless and really suit this down to a T.
You work, you pay taxes and you expect the people in positions of power and government to serve your needs and the needs of other citizens, when in actual reality they serve their own agendas.
Track “Lower Purpose” highlights greed, war and corruption and it’s almost impossible to free yourself from this cycle, inevitably becoming a lower purpose.
It is vastly technical and raw with aggressiveness, listeners are supplied with some serious grove and head splitting down tuned riffs.
Appreciating the album as a whole, it is totally packed with undeniable complexity within every turn and each track has something that is singularly different in their own manner.
“Red Horizon” has some girth and bounce to its rhythm and “Lurch” offers a basic eerie atmosphere before building into an extreme battering to the gut.
Title track “The Nothing That Is” is a representation of our evolution crashing down for sure! Onto your face and stomping the lessons into your brain.
Something needs to change within mankind and quickly.
Talk about not letting the sides down and it has my nod of approval, definitely one of my favourites on this record. That savage bite is incredible, what a sheer pinnacle addition to this wonderful album and that drop before it closes out, jeez its dribbling heavy.
Okay, is it better than their 2022 release?
In all fairness that is a difficult question to answer, purely due to the fact that the twists and bends in this album are nothing to compare to. It is without question that Fit For An Autopsy has high expectations and standards. I don’t think they will ever release anything that is below substandard.
They have proven that they can take anything and like putty, build a structure that holds and sticks without leaving a mess. Their overall influence in this album is battering and has to be up there with one of my favourites so far for 2024.
I do hope they carry these new elements with them into their next release but I have faith that it wouldn’t really matter and they probably won’t. I am more than sure, what they throw at us all next will be just as brutal and will flourish with the most insane, positive detailing that can only inspire fans further.
