Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

The boys are back in town. Whilst their former singer is shuffling around old haunts, recapturing hazy memories, Black Eyed Sons have freed themselves from the past and are looking at a bright future.

Born to rock ‘n’ roll, BES have brought the best elements of The Quireboys with them and with those precious links to their storied history intact have not just found their mojo with this new moniker but seduced it and made it as fiery as ever.

The first track from their forthcoming and star studded debut album, ‘Foolin Yourself’ has the dirty blues swing and grit of old but with an air that walks that elusive tightrope between classy and visceral, the addition of New York Doll Steve Conte and Kyf Brewer of Company of Wolves adding a dangerous edge.

With Guy Griffin really growing in his role as frontman, the vocals are assured and all you could hope they’d be, the fretwork of Paul Guerin full of sass, Keith Weir’s keys kick up a storm and the locomotive swing of Nick and Pip Mailing, Black Eyed Sons are like the best bar band in the world.

A sparkling start to this next new chapter, this is an authentic and joyous blast that heralds a very bright new dawn. Let’s get this party started.
