Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM
Proving you can’t keep a good band down, Cactus started kicking up a storm in 1969 and become one of the heaviest and ferocious blues rock outfits out there, their return in 2006 after a twenty-six-year hiatus a much welcome one.
Whilst bands like Cream and Led Zeppelin conquered the world, the band always seemed an underdog and one that never really got the public acclaim they truly deserved, their cult status amongst discerning music lovers assured.
Proving that they’ve certainly not lost none of their mighty power, ‘Evil’ is a tasty cut from their all-star ‘Temple of Blues’ album and sees legends Carmine Appice and Jim McCarty joined by the phenomenal Dee Snider and dUg Pinnick as the whole rages and swings.
Rightfully standing up to be counted as one of THE greats, Cactus lay it all on the line here, Snider’s vocals full off the perfect level of defiance, as Pinnick brings his liquid bass lines, Appice hits staggeringly hard and McCarty’s solo is full of soul and stinging barbs.
It seems like it’s time for everyone to wake up to the power here and it’s a euphoric feeling. Cactus truly rock.
